This stunning cottage enjoys a lofty, peaceful and private position in lower Bay, just off the ever-popular Chapel Street. It benefits from 2 sun terraces, one having fabulous panoramic sea views across the entire Bay from Ness Point to Ravenscar while the other looks over the rooftops of the village and captures the afternoon and evening sun. Eve Cottage is a delightful mix of contemporary, antique, stylish and warm and provides an excellent standard of accommodation.

Please note that young children should be supervised at all times on the terraces.

During peak times, whole-week bookings for this property are Friday - Friday.

Access and entry

Eve Cottage is located above Chapel Street and is accessed via a flight of approx 25 stone steps and through a wooden picket gate. Once through the gate, the ground floor and both patios are on that level.

Ground Floor

The entrance door leads into a small porch and a further door leads into the ground floor living space. As you step in, the first thing you'll see are the incredible views out to sea. This floor comprises the kitchen and lounge and there is a foldaway table for more formal dining if required. The handmade kitchen is quirky and full of tiny drawers and half-obscured cupboards. There is no traditional cooker or oven at Eve Cottage, so cooking is done on the AGA. Don't worry if you've never used one before - it's easier than you think. The kitchen also features an old stone drinking trough as a kitchen sink. Additionally, there is a fridge, a freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster and an old quarry tile floor completes the picture. The views from the kitchen window and the full-length glass door (which leads out onto the seaward patio) are amazing. There are precious few cottages in lower Bay that have good sea views as they were built away from the sea for protection, but Eve Cottage is one that has them in abundance. On the other side of the ground floor is the living area; designed for comfort and having 2 leather sofas looking in on each other, with a large rug between the two.  There is a footstool and some interesting and quirky artefacts about the place. Try using the ship's speaking tube which connects the ground floor and the top floor. Just lift the lid and quietly tell the occupants upstairs that breakfast is ready! The large inglenook fireplace houses a log-burning stove and entertainment is provided by a flat-screen TV, DVD player, CD player and WiFi.

First Floor

A narrow staircase leads up to the first floor but another unusual feature of this property is that, just before you arrive at the top, you can step off the stairs and into a small wet room comprising a WC, wash basin and shower. You should be aware that the stairs around the entrance to the wet room are at odd angles and widths and extra care should be taken. Once at the top of the stairs, there is a small landing with a window looking towards Bay Ness. The first of the two bedrooms has a double bed which is set in a very pleasant room of good proportions and with a window that looks directly out to the Ravenscar headland. There is an ornamental fireplace, a small corner cupboard, an antique chest of drawers and a large wash basin for your convenience. The second of the two bedrooms comprises two built-in bunk beds. It's important to note that these beds are only suitable for children and not for adults or older teenagers.

Second Floor

From the first-floor landing, a door leads up a further staircase into a beautiful attic bedroom with a decidedly antique flavour, having a fabulous 4-poster bed, chest of drawers and built-in cupboard. En suite to this room is a delightful bathroom comprising a free-standing roll-top bath, high cistern WC, washbasin and antique-style radiator. The window looks out across the water to Bay Ness.

Outside

Eve Cottage is indeed fortunate to have two separate terraces, one either side of the cottage. The one on the seaward side is accessed from the kitchen and comprises a flat decking area with table and chairs, raised flower beds and pots. It captures the morning sun and there is no better start to the day than an al fresco breakfast here. The terrace is surrounded by a low fence beyond which is a steep bank and, below that, the promenade at the top of the sea wall. Dogs and young children should be attended to at all times while using this facility. The second terrace perfectly captures the sun from mid-afternoon and into the evening and is perfect for sitting out on warm summer nights. The furniture here is heavy and rustic and the patio is surrounded by a low wall. Again, children must be supervised at all times.

General

Eve Cottage is, without a doubt, the one to stay in! The views alone would tempt most people but don't let that distract from the cottage itself. The blend of old, modern, quirk, comfort and curiosity come together in this beautiful property. You will want to return again and again.
